lols abound with the CDi. For those who are not familiar with this ill-fated console, in the early 90's, Nintendo and Sony were going to partner up for the Playstation project, that's right, the very same console that now rivals Nintendo. However, Nintendo humiliated Sony at a gaming conference by announcing a partnership with Phillips (the DVD and VCR guys), not Sony, without telling Sony first. This was done just hours after Sony announced their partnership with Nintendo.

So Sony continued anyway on the Playstation project, and Nintendo and Phillips made the CDi. The console played CD ROMs, which was a big thing, and as a partner with Nintendo, Phillips was given the rights to its characters, such as Zelda. AND THUS, THE FACES OF EVIL WAS BORN.

Also, the PlayStation project was apparently going to be a CD add-on for the SNES. After the fallout between Nintendo and Sony, the idea was scrapped and Sony ended up making their own console with the similar title.
